The Musée D’Orsay, on the occasion of the exhibition “Portraits de Cézanne”, unveils the major artist of the 19th century under a lesser-known face, that of a portraitist Cézanne. A special exercise to which the French painter devoted more than two hundred paintings, including twenty-six self-portraits and twenty-nine portraits of his wife, Hortense Fiquet. As the faces of the painter appear, the painter’s researches and variations on the same subject; A way to explore, nuance or confirm his artistic style and his pictorial methods. A chronological journey which marks his aesthetic evolutions but which also informs the characters who influenced his art and his artistic biases. To discover the one that Pablo Picasso called our father to all in a new light, directed the exhibition ‘Portraits de Cézanne’ at the Musée d’Orsay.
